Equality Diversity and Inclusion

As a socially responsible institution, we're continually working to better ourselves and ensure we provide an inclusive and safe environment for all students and staff.

We foster an organisational culture that is inclusive; where staff irrespective of gender participate equally at all levels.

We are working to ensure we are a destination of choice for staff and students irrespective of their gender, by creating a fair and equitable workplace and study environment. Staff diversity is a key to excellence and innovation and we celebrate the strength that difference creates.

Over the years we have implemented innovative policies and programmes to promote equal opportunity and to increase the participation of women in senior roles.

LGBTIQ staff inclusion

We value and support our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI+) community at UL.

UL delivers a range of STEMM and AHSSBL undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programmes, up to doctoral level, across its four faculties to 15,000 students.

UL values research excellence across all disciplines, and is proud of our reputation for delivering impactful research. Research is energised by the ongoing promotion of interdisciplinary research institutes, centres and units and through collaboration with international academic and industrial partners. UL currently has three multidisciplinary institutes: the Bernal Institute, the Health Research Institute and Lero – the Irish Software Research Centre, and a number of externally funded specialist research centres.

We are recognised for world-leading achievements in materials, advanced manufacturing, software, health and applied mathematical sciences. UL researchers have attracted in excess of €215 million in funding awards since 2014.

The inaugural Times Higher Education (THE) Europe Teaching rankings (July 2018) places UL first in Ireland and third among more than 240 universities across Europe for its environment, which includes staff and student gender balance.
