Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah — (Hebrew, literally “Head of the Year”)— is the Jewish New Year and the first of several High Holidays that occur in the autumn season. Rosh Hashanah is observed on the 1st two days of Tishrei, the 7th month of the Hebrew (lunar) calendar. This year, in 2023 Rosh HaShanah began on the evening of September 15th and ended at sundown September 17th. In the Torah (Old Testament), Rosh HaShanah is described as Yom Teruah, (a day of sounding the [shofar/ram’s horn]). In traditional communities, it is custom to sound the shofar anywhere between 30 to 100 times on each day of the holiday!
All are invited to join Dr Yonit Kosovske for an abbreviated shofar ritual (5 minutes max!) in the lobby of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at 11:50am on Wednesday 20th September.
